Blast Furnace

What is a Blast Furnace?

A Blast Furnace is a specialized furnace in Minecraft that smelts ores, raw metals, and tools at twice the speed of a regular Furnace. It is primarily used for refining iron, gold, and other metal-based items. It also serves as a job site block, assigning the Armorer profession to Villagers.

Where Can a Blast Furnace Be Found?

Blast Furnaces generate naturally in Armorer houses within Villages. Players can also craft a Blast Furnace using five Iron Ingots, a Furnace, and three Smooth Stone. Unlike regular Furnaces, Blast Furnaces only smelt metal-related items, making them highly efficient for ore processing. More details about crafting and smelting can be found in the Furnace article.

What Can Players Do with a Blast Furnace?

A Blast Furnace is mainly used for smelting raw ores, metal tools, and armor at twice the speed of a normal Furnace. It consumes fuel at the same rate, making it an efficient choice for large-scale ore processing. It does not smelt food or non-metal blocks. Additionally, placing a Blast Furnace in a Village will assign the Armorer profession to any unemployed Villager, allowing players to trade for armor-related items. More details about Villager trades can be found in the Villager Professions article.

The History of Blast Furnaces in Minecraft

Blast Furnaces were introduced in Minecraft version 1.14 as part of the Village & Pillage Update. This update improved Villager mechanics, introduced new job site blocks, and expanded trading options.

Interesting Fact or Real-Life Connection

In real life, blast furnaces are used in steelmaking to refine raw iron ore into usable metal. They operate at extremely high temperatures, melting down materials for further processing—just like in Minecraft, where the Blast Furnace smelts ores more efficiently than a standard Furnace.
