Jukebox

What is a Jukebox?

A Jukebox is a functional music-playing block in Minecraft that allows players to play Music Discs. It adds an interactive and immersive element to the game by letting players listen to in-game music tracks using collectible discs. The Jukebox is often used for atmosphere in builds, entertainment in multiplayer servers, and Redstone-based musical contraptions.

Where Can Jukeboxes Be Found?

Jukeboxes do not generate naturally and must be crafted by players. To craft a Jukebox, players need eight Wooden Planks of any type and one Diamond, placing the planks in a square around the Diamond inside a Crafting Table.

Since Diamonds are rare and found deep underground between Y-levels -64 and 16, crafting a Jukebox is usually a mid-to-late game achievement. While expensive, it is the only way to play Music Discs, making it valuable for collectors and music lovers in Minecraft.

What Can Players Do with a Jukebox?

A Jukebox allows players to play any of the 15+ collectible Music Discs in Minecraft. To play a disc, simply right-click the Jukebox with a Music Disc, and the music will begin playing in the surrounding area. Removing the disc will stop the music immediately.

Jukeboxes can also interact with Redstone components. When a Music Disc is inserted, the Jukebox emits a Redstone signal strength of 15, making it useful for Redstone-powered jukebox rooms, automatic music players, or even secret passage activations.

Parrots nearby will dance when a Jukebox is playing, adding a fun visual element to builds. Many players use Jukeboxes to create entertainment areas in survival bases or multiplayer hubs.

Interesting Fact or Real-Life Connection

Jukeboxes in Minecraft are inspired by real-world record players and jukebox machines, which were popular in bars, diners, and arcades from the 1940s to the 1980s. Just like in Minecraft, real jukeboxes allowed users to insert a record and play a selected song, bringing music to social spaces.
