Block of Raw Iron

What is a Block of Raw Iron?

A Block of Raw Iron is a compressed storage block made from Raw Iron, primarily used for compact storage and decoration. Unlike the Block of Iron, which has a smooth metallic texture, the Block of Raw Iron has a chunky, unprocessed appearance resembling iron embedded in stone. This makes it useful for mining-themed builds, industrial areas, and ore storage rooms.

Where Can Blocks of Raw Iron Be Found?

Blocks of Raw Iron do not generate naturally and must be crafted by players. They are created by placing nine Raw Iron in a square inside a Crafting Table.

Raw Iron is obtained by mining Iron Ore or Deepslate Iron Ore with a non-Silk Touch pickaxe. Iron Ore generates between Y-levels -64 and 256, with optimal concentrations around Y-level 16. Large iron veins can be found deep underground, often mixed with Tuff blocks, providing a rich source of Raw Iron.

What Can Players Do with Blocks of Raw Iron?

Blocks of Raw Iron are primarily used for storage and decoration. Since Iron is one of the most used resources in Minecraft, storing it in Block form helps save inventory space during large mining expeditions. Players can convert Blocks of Raw Iron back into nine Raw Iron at any time, making them a flexible way to transport large amounts of iron.

Decoratively, Blocks of Raw Iron provide a rugged, unprocessed metal look, making them useful for cave interiors, mining outposts, and factory builds. Their ore-like texture allows players to create realistic-looking stockpiles of raw materials in warehouses or forge settings.

Unlike the Block of Iron, the Block of Raw Iron cannot be used in beacon pyramids and does not have any crafting functionality beyond storage.

The History of Blocks of Raw Iron in Minecraft

Blocks of Raw Iron were introduced in Minecraft Java Edition 1.17, as part of the “Caves & Cliffs” update. This update changed how ores drop resources, replacing direct ore drops with Raw Ore variants, including Raw Iron, Raw Copper, and Raw Gold. The addition of Raw Ore Blocks provided a new method for storing large amounts of unprocessed metals, improving mining efficiency.

Interesting Fact or Real-Life Connection

Blocks of Raw Iron resemble real-world iron ore, which is mined in large, rocky formations before being refined into pure iron. In industrial processes, iron ore is extracted from hematite and magnetite deposits, similar to how Minecraft players mine Raw Iron from Iron Ore veins deep underground. The real-world process of refining iron involves smelting in blast furnaces, just like in Minecraft where Raw Iron is smelted into Iron Ingots.
