Purple Torch

What is a Purple Torch?

A Purple Torch is a decorative and functional light source exclusive to Minecraft Education Edition and Bedrock Edition with Education features enabled. Unlike a regular Torch, the Purple Torch emits a dim, purple-colored light, making it perfect for mystical builds, space-themed environments, and chemistry experiments.

This torch is part of Minecraft’s Chemistry system and cannot be crafted in standard Survival Mode unless Education features are enabled.

Where Can Purple Torches Be Found?

Purple Torches do not generate naturally and must be crafted using Minecraft’s Chemistry system. To craft one, players need:

  1. Potassium Chloride – Obtained from the Element Constructor or Material Reducer.

  2. Standard Torch – Crafted from one Stick and one Coal or Charcoal.

When combined in the Lab Table, these materials produce a Purple Torch.

What Can Players Do with a Purple Torch?

The Purple Torch is mainly decorative, but it has several creative uses, including:

  • Mystical and magical-themed builds, where the purple glow adds an enchanted look.

  • Sci-fi and space bases, giving a cosmic or alien aesthetic.

  • Dark laboratories and secret lairs, where purple lighting creates a mysterious atmosphere.

  • Educational chemistry experiments, where students learn about flame color reactions in real-world science.

Unlike Soul Torches, which also emit colored light, Purple Torches are exclusive to Minecraft’s Chemistry system and do not deter Piglins.

The History of Purple Torches in Minecraft

Purple Torches were introduced in Minecraft Education Edition’s Chemistry Update, allowing players to experiment with real-world chemical compounds. They are exclusive to Education Edition and Bedrock Edition with Education features enabled, meaning they cannot be crafted in standard Survival Mode.

Interesting Fact or Real-Life Connection

Purple Torches mimic real-life chemical reactions, where potassium compounds burn with a purple (lilac) flame. In fireworks, laboratory experiments, and pyrotechnics, different chemical compounds produce different flame colors, making this a fun way to explore chemistry in Minecraft!
