Smoker

What is a Smoker?

A Smoker is a specialized furnace in Minecraft designed for cooking food items twice as fast as a regular Furnace. It is mainly used for efficient food preparation and serves as the job site block for Butcher Villagers. While it cannot smelt ores or craft other items, its speed makes it ideal for large-scale food production.

Where Can a Smoker Be Found?

Smokers naturally generate in Villages inside Butcher houses. Players can also craft a Smoker using four Wooden Logs and one Furnace, making it an easy-to-obtain upgrade for food preparation. Once placed, unemployed Villagers can interact with it to become Butchers. More details about Villager job blocks can be found in the Villager Professions article.

What Can Players Do with a Smoker?

Smokers cook raw meat, fish, and other food items at double the speed of a Furnace. This makes them useful for quickly preparing food supplies in Survival Mode. They accept all Furnace-compatible fuels, including Coal, Lava Buckets, and Wooden items. While they cannot smelt ores, they are often paired with Blast Furnaces for optimized resource processing. More details about fuel efficiency can be found in the Furnace article.

The History of Smokers in Minecraft

Smokers were introduced in Minecraft version 1.14 as part of the Village & Pillage Update, alongside the Blast Furnace and other Villager job site blocks. They were designed to improve cooking efficiency, reducing the time needed to prepare food for players and Villagers.

Interesting Fact or Real-Life Connection

In real life, smokers are used for cooking and preserving food by exposing it to smoke over an extended period. While the Minecraft Smoker does not preserve food, its increased cooking speed reflects how real-world smokers prepare food faster than traditional cooking methods.
