Fletching Table

What is a Fletching Table?

A Fletching Table is a decorative and functional Villager job site block in Minecraft that assigns the Fletcher profession to Unemployed Villagers. While it does not yet have a direct crafting or gameplay use for players, it is essential for trading arrows, bows, and crossbows with Fletchers. It features a wooden tabletop with an arrow target design, making it visually suitable for archery-related builds and hunting lodges.

Where Can Fletching Tables Be Found?

Fletching Tables naturally generate in villages with Fletchers, usually inside their houses or workstations. If a village does not have a Fletcher, placing a Fletching Table near an Unemployed Villager will cause them to become a Fletcher, allowing players to trade with them for arrows, bows, tipped arrows, and crossbows.

Players can also craft a Fletching Table using two Flint and four Wooden Planks of any type, placing the Flint on top of the Wooden Planks inside a Crafting Table. Since Flint is easily obtained from Gravel, crafting a Fletching Table is a simple task even early in the game.

What Can Players Do with a Fletching Table?

The main function of a Fletching Table is assigning Villagers the Fletcher profession. Fletchers are useful for trading, as they offer arrows, bows, and crossbows—all of which are essential for ranged combat and hunting. At higher trading levels, Fletchers can sell enchanted bows and tipped arrows, making them valuable for PvP and fighting tough enemies like the Ender Dragon or Wither.

Despite its appearance as a workbench, the Fletching Table currently has no crafting functionality for players. However, Mojang has hinted that future updates may give it a practical use, potentially related to archery or ranged combat mechanics.

Outside of trading, Fletching Tables serve as decorative blocks, fitting well in archery ranges, hunting lodges, and medieval villages.

The History of Fletching Tables in Minecraft

Fletching Tables were introduced in Minecraft Java Edition 1.14, as part of the “Village & Pillage” update. This update overhauled Villager professions, adding job site blocks like the Fletching Table, Smithing Table, and Grindstone, improving Villager AI and trade mechanics.

Interesting Fact or Real-Life Connection

Fletching Tables are based on real-world fletching benches, which archers and bowyers use to attach feathers (fletching) to arrows, ensuring they fly straight. Historically, Fletchers were skilled craftsmen who made and sold arrows for hunters, soldiers, and archers in medieval times, much like their Minecraft counterparts.
