Game History

In Minecraft’s version 1.7.2, a new type of wood was introduced to the game – the Dark Oak Wood. It was added along with Acacia Wood, and can only be found naturally in one biome – the dense and Dark Roofed Forest. The trees that grow in this biome are so close together that the sunlight is often blocked, allowing hostile mobs to spawn even during the day. What makes Dark Oak Trees stand out from other trees is their thick trunks, which are 2×2 blocks in size and have craggy branches below the leaf canopy. Unlike other trees, growing Dark Oaks isn’t as easy – it requires four Saplings arranged in a 2×2 grid, and planting them individually won’t work. However, the good news is that they tend to grow faster than other trees once they are fully grown.

Did you know?

It’s worth noting that Dark Oak trees are not actual trees, however, they are believed to be based on Quercus Velutina, also known as Black Oaks, which is one of the numerous species mentioned earlier. Despite being fictional, Dark Oak trees have a distinct resemblance to the real-life black oaks, taking inspiration from their unique characteristics and qualities.
