Exposed Cut Copper Slab

What is an Exposed Cut Copper Slab?

An Exposed Cut Copper Slab is a half-block variant of Exposed Cut Copper in Minecraft. It features a slightly corroded, aged copper texture, making it ideal for weathered rooftops, industrial flooring, and layered architectural details. Like other slabs, it allows for gradual elevation changes and adds depth and texture to builds.

Where Can Exposed Cut Copper Slabs Be Found?

Exposed Cut Copper Slabs do not generate naturally and must be crafted or obtained through oxidation. Players can obtain them in two ways:

  1. Crafting – Exposed Cut Copper Slabs are crafted by placing three Exposed Cut Copper blocks in a horizontal row inside a Crafting Table.
  2. Natural OxidationCut Copper Slabs placed in the world slowly oxidize over time, transitioning through four oxidation stages:
    • Cut Copper Slab (bright orange)
    • Exposed Cut Copper Slab (lightly corroded)
    • Weathered Cut Copper Slab (green patina developing)
    • Oxidized Cut Copper Slab (fully turquoise-green)

To prevent further oxidation, players can wax Exposed Cut Copper Slabs using Honeycomb, locking in their current state. If left unwaxed, they will continue to weather into Weathered and Oxidized variants.

What Can Players Do with Exposed Cut Copper Slabs?

Exposed Cut Copper Slabs are purely decorative, offering a structured, aged copper texture that is perfect for steampunk builds, rustic pathways, and abandoned structures. Their half-block design makes them useful for gradual steps, smooth flooring, and layered detailing on roofs and walls.

Since slabs prevent mob spawning when placed on the bottom half of a block space, Exposed Cut Copper Slabs are often used to mob-proof large areas while maintaining a textured metallic aesthetic.

Players can scrape oxidation off the slab using an Axe, reverting it to the previous stage (regular Cut Copper Slab). Unlike full blocks, Copper Slabs do not generate as standalone blocks in structures, meaning all Exposed Cut Copper Slabs must be crafted manually.

The History of Exposed Cut Copper Slabs in Minecraft

Exposed Cut Copper Slabs were introduced in Minecraft Java Edition 1.17, as part of the “Caves & Cliffs” update. The update introduced Copper and its oxidation mechanics, making it the first slab type in Minecraft that naturally changes over time.

Interesting Fact or Real-Life Connection

Exposed Cut Copper Slabs resemble real-world copper sheet roofing and metal platforms, commonly used in historic domes, industrial walkways, and shipbuilding. Over time, copper surfaces exposed to air and moisture naturally corrode, developing the same faded orange and green patina seen in Minecraft. Iconic structures like the Statue of Liberty have undergone this process, turning from bright copper to green over the years.
