Horn Coral Wall Fan

What is a Horn Coral Wall Fan?

A Horn Coral Wall Fan is a bright yellow, branching coral structure that generates in warm ocean biomes. Unlike regular coral blocks, which are solid, Horn Coral Wall Fans attach to the sides of blocks, creating a natural, overgrown reef appearance. These fans add vibrant color to aquariums, coral reefs, and underwater bases.

Like all coral fans, Horn Coral Wall Fans will die and turn gray if removed from water, becoming a Dead Horn Coral Wall Fan.

Where Can Horn Coral Wall Fans Be Found?

Horn Coral Wall Fans naturally generate in coral reefs, which are found in warm ocean biomes. They attach to the sides of coral blocks, stone, or other solid underwater surfaces.

To collect a Horn Coral Wall Fan, players must:

  • Use a Silk Touch tool – Breaking it without Silk Touch causes it to disappear without dropping.
  • Trade with Wandering Traders – Occasionally, Wandering Traders sell coral-related blocks.

To keep Horn Coral Wall Fans alive, they must remain submerged in water—otherwise, they will turn into Dead Horn Coral Wall Fans after a few seconds.

What Can Players Do with Horn Coral Wall Fans?

Horn Coral Wall Fans are purely decorative, but they enhance underwater environments with bright colors and organic shapes. They are commonly used for:

  • Aquariums and coral reef restoration, making ocean environments more colorful.
  • Fantasy and alien builds, where their bright yellow, branching form resembles exotic plants.
  • Underwater ruins and shipwrecks, adding a realistic marine overgrowth effect.

Unlike solid coral blocks, Horn Coral Wall Fans cannot be waterlogged, meaning they must be placed against existing underwater blocks to stay alive.

The History of Horn Coral Wall Fans in Minecraft

Horn Coral Wall Fans were introduced in Minecraft Java Edition 1.13 (Update Aquatic), which added coral reefs, shipwrecks, and underwater mechanics. Before this update, oceans were mostly empty, but coral reefs made them lively and colorful. Five types of coral fans were added: Horn, Fire, Brain, Bubble, and Tube.

Interesting Fact or Real-Life Connection

Horn Coral Wall Fans resemble real-world Horn Corals (Rugosa), an extinct type of coral that existed hundreds of millions of years ago. Their branching structure and yellow hue also resemble certain modern soft corals, which provide shelter for marine life.

Just like in Minecraft, real coral reefs require water to survive—in reality, coral reefs are dying due to climate change, pollution, and ocean acidification, making coral conservation an important issue.
