Tube Coral Wall Fan

What is a Tube Coral Wall Fan?

A Tube Coral Wall Fan is a bright blue, branching coral decoration in Minecraft that naturally generates in warm ocean biomes. Unlike solid Tube Coral Blocks, Tube Coral Wall Fans attach to the sides of underwater blocks, making them ideal for coral reef restoration, aquarium builds, and marine-themed decorations.

Like all coral fans, Tube Coral Wall Fans will die and turn gray if removed from water, becoming a Dead Tube Coral Wall Fan.

Where Can Tube Coral Wall Fans Be Found?

Tube Coral Wall Fans naturally generate in coral reefs, which appear in warm ocean biomes. They grow attached to the sides of blocks, such as:

  • Coral Blocks
  • Stone or Sandstone
  • Other underwater solid surfaces

To collect a Tube Coral Wall Fan, players must:

  • Use a Silk Touch tool – Breaking the coral fan without Silk Touch causes it to disappear without dropping.
  • Trade with Wandering Traders – Occasionally, Wandering Traders sell coral-related blocks.

To keep Tube Coral Wall Fans alive, they must be placed underwater—otherwise, they will turn into Dead Tube Coral Wall Fans.

What Can Players Do with Tube Coral Wall Fans?

Tube Coral Wall Fans are purely decorative, enhancing underwater areas with vibrant colors and realistic textures. They are commonly used for:

  • Aquariums and underwater bases, adding natural marine life.
  • Coral reef restoration, making oceans feel more alive.
  • Fantasy and alien builds, where their blue, fan-like shape resembles exotic plants.
  • Shipwrecks and ocean ruins, simulating overgrown marine structures.

Unlike solid Coral Blocks, Tube Coral Wall Fans cannot be waterlogged, meaning they must be attached to an existing underwater block to survive.

The History of Tube Coral Wall Fans in Minecraft

Tube Coral and its wall fan variants were introduced in Minecraft Java Edition 1.13 (Update Aquatic), which overhauled ocean biomes by adding coral reefs, shipwrecks, and water physics improvements. Before this update, oceans were mostly empty and lifeless, but the addition of coral reefs made them more colorful and diverse.

The coral death mechanic was also introduced, requiring players to keep coral submerged in water to prevent it from dying.

Interesting Fact or Real-Life Connection

Tube Coral Wall Fans resemble real-world Tube Corals, which are soft-bodied marine organisms that form branching structures in shallow ocean waters. Real Tube Corals provide shelter and food for fish and marine life, much like how Minecraft’s coral reefs enhance ocean ecosystems.

However, real coral reefs face threats from climate change, ocean pollution, and rising sea temperatures, leading to coral bleaching and death—just like how Minecraft coral turns gray when removed from water.
