Fire Coral Wall Fan

What is a Fire Coral Wall Fan?

A Fire Coral Wall Fan is a decorative coral block in Minecraft that generates underwater in warm ocean biomes. It features a bright red, branching structure, resembling flames, making it one of the most visually striking coral fans. Unlike solid coral blocks, Fire Coral Wall Fans attach to the sides of blocks, creating a natural, overgrown reef appearance.

Like all living coral, Fire Coral Wall Fans will die and turn gray if placed outside of water, becoming Dead Fire Coral Wall Fans.

Where Can Fire Coral Wall Fans Be Found?

Fire Coral Wall Fans naturally generate in coral reefs found in warm ocean biomes. They attach to the sides of coral blocks, stone, or other solid underwater surfaces. To collect a Fire Coral Wall Fan, players must:

  • Use a Silk Touch tool – Breaking the fan without Silk Touch causes it to disappear without dropping.
  • Trade with Wandering Traders – Occasionally, Wandering Traders offer coral-related blocks.

To keep Fire Coral Wall Fans alive, they must stay submerged in water—otherwise, they will turn into Dead Fire Coral Wall Fans after a few seconds.

What Can Players Do with Fire Coral Wall Fans?

Fire Coral Wall Fans are purely decorative, adding vibrant color and texture to underwater builds. They are commonly used for:

  • Aquariums and coral reef restoration, making ocean environments more colorful.
  • Fantasy and alien builds, where their bright red branching shape resembles exotic plants.
  • Thematic decorations, such as fire-like details in Nether or lava-themed builds.

Unlike solid coral blocks, Fire Coral Wall Fans cannot be waterlogged, meaning they must be placed against existing underwater blocks to stay alive.

The History of Fire Coral Wall Fans in Minecraft

Fire Coral Wall Fans were introduced in Minecraft Java Edition 1.13 (Update Aquatic), which significantly expanded ocean biomes by adding coral reefs, shipwrecks, and new water mechanics. This update made oceans more vibrant and explorable, introducing five types of coral fans: Fire, Brain, Bubble, Tube, and Horn.

Interesting Fact or Real-Life Connection

Fire Coral Wall Fans resemble real-world Fire Coral (Millepora), a type of stinging hydrocoral found in warm tropical waters. Unlike Minecraft’s decorative Fire Coral, real Fire Coral is venomous and can cause painful burns when touched. Their bright red color warns marine life to stay away, much like how many poisonous creatures in nature use bright colors as a defense mechanism.
