Block of Raw Gold

What is a Block of Raw Gold?

A Block of Raw Gold is a compressed storage block made from Raw Gold, primarily used for compact storage and decoration. Unlike the Block of Gold, which has a smooth, polished metallic appearance, the Block of Raw Gold has a rough, unrefined texture resembling gold embedded in stone. This makes it useful for mining-themed builds, treasure hoards, and industrial structures.

Where Can Blocks of Raw Gold Be Found?

Blocks of Raw Gold do not generate naturally and must be crafted by players. They are made by placing nine Raw Gold in a square inside a Crafting Table.

Raw Gold is obtained by mining Gold Ore or Deepslate Gold Ore with a non-Silk Touch pickaxe. Gold Ore is most commonly found underground between Y-levels -64 and 32, with the highest concentration in Badlands biomes, where it generates in large veins near the surface.

What Can Players Do with Blocks of Raw Gold?

Blocks of Raw Gold are primarily used for storage and decoration. They allow players to store large amounts of Raw Gold compactly, making inventory management easier during large mining sessions. These blocks also serve as aesthetic decorations, particularly in mineshafts, treasure chambers, and industrial-style buildings due to their chunky, ore-like texture.

Players can convert Blocks of Raw Gold back into nine Raw Gold at any time, making them a flexible way to transport large quantities of gold without filling up inventory slots. Unlike the Block of Gold, however, Blocks of Raw Gold cannot be used in beacon pyramids and do not have any special crafting uses beyond storage.

The History of Blocks of Raw Gold in Minecraft

Blocks of Raw Gold were introduced in Minecraft Java Edition 1.17, as part of the “Caves & Cliffs” update. This update changed how ores drop resources, replacing direct ore drops with Raw Ore variants, including Raw Gold, Raw Iron, and Raw Copper. The introduction of Raw Ore Blocks provided a new way to store large amounts of unprocessed metals, making mining expeditions more efficient.

Interesting Fact or Real-Life Connection

Blocks of Raw Gold resemble real-world gold ore, which is mined in its natural, unrefined state before being processed into pure gold. In the real world, gold is often extracted from quartz veins, riverbeds, and deep underground deposits, much like in Minecraft’s ore generation system. Gold mining has been a significant part of human history, from ancient civilizations to modern gold rushes, paralleling the way players mine for gold in-game.
