Soul Wall Torch

What is a Soul Wall Torch?

A Soul Wall Torch is a wall-mounted variant of the Soul Torch, emitting a dim, blue flame instead of the standard orange glow of a normal Torch. Unlike regular Wall Torches, the Soul Wall Torch provides less light but prevents Piglins from getting too close, making it useful for Nether bases and spooky-themed builds.

Since it is attached to vertical surfaces, the Soul Wall Torch functions the same as a regular Wall Torch but has a cooler, eerie aesthetic.

Where Can Soul Wall Torches Be Found?

Soul Wall Torches do not generate naturally and must be crafted manually. To obtain one:

  1. Craft a Soul Torch – Using one Stick, one Coal or Charcoal, and one Soul Sand or Soul Soil in a Crafting Table.
  2. Place the Soul Torch on a wall – Right-clicking a solid vertical surface converts it into a Soul Wall Torch.

Unlike regular Torches, Soul Wall Torches do not generate in structures, but they can be used creatively for Nether builds, crypts, or horror-themed areas.

What Can Players Do with Soul Wall Torches?

Soul Wall Torches are mainly decorative but have several practical uses:

  • Piglin Repellent – Piglins avoid areas lit by Soul Fire sources, making these torches useful in Nether bases.
  • Low-Light Decoration – They emit a light level of 10 (compared to 14 from normal torches), creating a moody atmosphere.
  • Thematic Builds – Their ghostly blue color fits haunted castles, crypts, dungeons, and ice caves.
  • Invisible Redstone Input – When placed near Redstone-powered blocks, they can act as hidden signal sources for secret doors.

Because of their lower light level, Soul Wall Torches do not prevent all hostile mobs from spawning, so they are best used alongside brighter light sources.

The History of Soul Wall Torches in Minecraft

Soul Torches were introduced in Minecraft Java Edition 1.16 (Nether Update), alongside Soul Campfires, Soul Lanterns, and Soul Fire. This update expanded the Nether biome system, introducing Soul Sand Valley, where Soul Fire burns naturally.

The Piglin repelling mechanic was also added, making Soul Torches useful for keeping Piglins away from specific areas.

Interesting Fact or Real-Life Connection

The blue flame of the Soul Wall Torch is inspired by real-world chemistry, where copper or alcohol-based fires burn blue instead of orange. The eerie “soul fire” effect is also influenced by folklore and mythology, where blue flames are often associated with ghosts, spirits, and supernatural occurrences.
